Eclipse Engineering

Modular Process Systems

Designing a process in a modular fashion can improve delivery and cost of the finished product by reducing field labor and using structural fabrication techniques that are not available with field construction.

Eclipse can start with a General Equipment Arrangement and design a workable structural solution to support the required equipment, piping, and control devices. Further, our engineers can assist in the development of the arrangement so that the finished unit allows for easy access and efficient fabrication.

Thanks to our extensive knowledge of vessels and process equipment, we can effectively accommodate standard and non-standard steel shapes and connections, and allow for flexibility where thermal effects are problematic. We design to all the major building and vessel codes, as well as some that are not so common, such as CBIC and BOCA.

Often times the most severe load case on a modular structure is its transport or lifting since the structure and equipment are typically shipped and installed as a unit. In every case, Eclipse includes a transportation evaluation and lifting instructions.

Typical types of analysis work Eclipse performs for modular systems:

  • Lifting device design / rigging methods and plans
  • Transport loads
  • Structural analysis per building codes
  • Vessel analysis per ASME, BS5500, Canadian codes
  • Piping loads, wind, seismic, thermal
  • Foundation and anchor design

Design Codes Used

  • ASCE, IBC, CBC, UBC
  • BOCA, CISC
  • ASME B31.1
  • ASME B31.3
  • ASME Section VIII, Division 1
  • AWS
  • OSHA
