Customer need
Redesign an existing fan-inlet duct such that AMCA flow requirements are met, and adequate structural integrity to withstand internal pressure.
The challenge
- Existing duct stiffeners cannot be removed.
- New design pressure is three times greater than that used for the original duct design.
- The distance from the turn to the fan inlet was short, and the original duct vane design was not optimized, which meant the original design did not meet the customer’s flow requirements.
The solution
- Eclipse engineers utilized the existing stiffeners by adding plates and standard structural shapes to obtain a section able to withstand the new requirements.
- Eclipse CFD analysts designed a 6-vane system which allowed the customer to meet the flow specification..
